“As an artist Darvall has always been drawn to mark making, and this has been further ingrained into her creative practice due to time spent in Asia. Mark making is such a part of Asian art culture such as calligraphy, a layered art form that encompasses both the physical and spiritual. Nature and the energy within it forms part of calligraphy, thus infusing their bodies with an energy that shows up on the page as the mark. It becomes a meditative practice, and Darvall has found a similarity within her painting practice. She becomes so engrossed within the moment and energy of mark making and creating - that shapes, forms and an inviting poetic landscape appears from within.”
